Self-Acceptance & Your Ego
This blog is from my weekly series ‘Shadow Confessions’ of anonymous disclosures revealing others' deepest secrets & hidden feelings.
Within this offering, you will see yourself in others, learn how to acknowledge your shadow & receive practical tips so your shadow no longer handicaps your potential.
Triggered Feeling:
The feeling described above is acceptance.
Acknowledge Your Shadow:
When you discover a new layer of yourself, it's normal to experience intrusive thoughts or self-doubt. This happens because your identity is shifting therefore your Ego is being questioned. You might also...
Behave in ways that honor your past, not your present
Maintain past connections that no longer serve you, but you feel too guilty to end
Dismiss new experiences out of fear or anxiety
Avoid owning the new version of yourself because of what others might think
Here's the thing: Your Ego is formed to protect you and will often resort to what it knows (aka your pre-medical journey) before accepting the new you.
To surpass this old programming, you must create new neural pathways. Acceptance comes with acknowledgment of old patterns and new reinforcement — aka neuroplasticity. Begin the first step in changing the way you think below!
Steps to Integrate:
Your relationship to change determines the level of peace within your mind. Journal on the following prompts:
What is your relationship to change?
Does your Ego crave to control your reality? How has your past impacted how you react to change? Did you witness similar behaviors while growing up?
Where are you meeting yourself with self-acceptance?
What is your relationship to honesty these days?
What are you holding onto? In what ways do you make things harder for yourself?
Do you fear what life will be like when you let go? How can you create space in your life to actively let go?
You can find your next steps to reinforce this shadow completely here.
Until next week,
